Mayflower Makes
A Difference

We work to enrich our community’s quality of life with programs beyond our staged performances.

– pro-bono musical programs for underserved audiences such as senior residences

– pro-bono musical programs at Marin County Fair, Pacifics’ ballgames, community festivals and events

– donation drives and publicity-sharing for targeted non-profits

– award ceremony and publicity for the distinguished recipients of our Friend of Marin Arts Award

Songs for Seniors; Bucks for Boys

Mayflowers Chorus was proud to present a check for $525 to the Godmothers at St. Vincent’s School for Boys. The Godmothers make sure resident boys enjoy birthday celebrations and other family-living-style “extras.” Our check represented individual donations from members and guests at our season-start social in September.  While we’re sharing food, fun and sociability each season, Mayflower singers traditionally make volunteer donations to another Marin nonprofit.

Fourth Street Beat visits Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living Facilities

Twelve Mayflower singers and accompanist David Manley just spent several Saturdays on what they call “the most rewarding” part of their choral experience. The “Fourth Street Beat” Ensemble brought their extensive music program to residents at four Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living Facilities. The residents at Professional Post Acute Center, Drakes Terrace Assisted Living, Pineridge Care Center and AlmaVia San Rafael demonstrated their pleasure at each show.

Fourth Street Beat keeps their repertoire performance-ready to represent Mayflower at community events. This tour was their 18th year performing at senior residences.

Friend of Marin Arts

In 2012, the Friend of Marin Arts Award was born of the desire to recognize those in and from Marin County who share our love of music and performance, and who use their creativity to positively impact artists and audiences. Recipients of this award are honored at our yearly Benefit Gala fundraiser.

Tim Cain

The Mayflower Chorus proudly presented Tim Cain with the Friend of Marin Arts Award, 2019.

Tim Cain co-founded, with Bill Champlin and Terry Haggerty, the acclaimed  1960-70’s era rock group, Sons of Champlin.  Between 1968 and 1977, Sons of Champlin toured nationally and produced 7 albums.  Tim was the original tenor sax player, arranger, songwriter and vocalist for the Sons’ first 3 albums.

Tim has continued to create, perform and produce music, but of a more acoustic nature, always with attention to fine quality and with a great deal of heart. Today Tim performs and records especially for children ages 3-8.  He performs 200 concerts a year, and has volunteered for local events as a performer, musical director and recording technician.  His 5 albums of music for children have received national awards and honors.
